Web design firm got its start almost by accident

The birth of Tech Valley Webs, an East Greenbush based Web and IT solutions company, came about when its founder took a path down which he wasn’t originally heading.

Tech Valley Webs wasn’t the company Jim Letzelter originally set out to create. His career was in management consulting for large power companies. In 2004, he started his own consulting firm and needed a website. Letzelter decided he could build it himself and, after quite a bit of time, effort, research and practice, he produced what he calls a decent website.

“What I knew then still holds true: Having an ‘okay’ website was not good enough,” he said.  “It is critical to have a highly polished, professional-quality website. So I went back to the drawing board until I got it just right.”

After that, friends and colleagues asked about the site and whether Letzelter could design websites for them, too.  “I ended up building websites for them, mostly as a hobby. Before long, I was in business.”

Letzelter credits hiring his first designer as the point at which he really stepped into the business of web design.  “It was a huge difference having a ‘real’ designer on the team, and the websites went to a new level. More businesses took notice, and we’ve grown ever since.”
