Art-n-Soul, Inc started out with one mixed media artist — Owner and Chief Creativity Coach Janet Tanguay — selling her work to private collectors and corporate accounts. When Tanguay started creating a buzz about her work in the art world, other artists wanted to understand the business of art, the technology of art and how to market their own art. As a result, Tanguay took on these artists as clients through the coaching side of her business. Her business has continued to grow and Art-n-Soul now represents more than 60 artists locally, nationally and internationally.
“I had no idea how much of a role technology would take in my business as it continued to grow,” said Tanguay. “Most artists would rather be in the studio creating art than trying to figure out the technical aspects of selling their art,” she added, “but I encourage artists to take a closer look at technology.”
The first thing Tanguay did was to offer artists a page on her website. Art-n-Soul offers artists an affordable way to create a simple web page and market their upcoming shows.
In early 2010, Art-n-Soul launched Art-n-Soul TV, a series of videos at www.artnsoulinc.com that features working artists and their inspiration and the group also has quarterly Mastermind sessions for creative types through GoToMeeting.com.
Art-n-Soul hosts several events each year and teaches the business of art throughout the state. This past year, Art-n-Soul hosted an artist retreat on Cape Cod; brought a South African cellist to the Capital Region to interpret art through music; held yoga and NIA and art workshops; and conducted a fundraising event, workshops on the business of art, a bartering for art day, and a holiday art card sale.
